Dear Parent,
Marblehead Children's Center has officially entered the circle of compound influence, which means that we are learning the why, how, and now of social networking through e-newsletters and on-line advertising. As we continue to learn we will make fewer mistakes. One of our goals is to create a newsletter each month that serves as a communication tool and a resource for our parents.
Our newsletter this month offers a preview of all our new projects and activities. Make sure you visit each section for information on our Swap Shop, Green News from MCC, Gardening News, and Blanket the Globe Project.
Please be sure to read the Classroom News section. It features all of our spring science projects.

Classroom News
Toddler 2-Our caterpillars have arrived! We are witnessing the wonder of the butterfly life cycle. We are planning to put them in a container with live plants and grass to observe them in a natural habitat. This is a great time to talk about all different types of cars, trucks and construction vehicles. On Tioga Way, we can observe boats being transported, bobcats, dump trucks and many different types of delivery trucks. We find them fascinating to watch! We will integrate our outdoor observations with some fun filled art projects, music and stories. We have started some green bean and sunflower seedlings indoors. We are very excited to see them beginning to sprout! We are getting ready to plant them outside in our garden. We will keep you informed of their progress.
Toddler 4 - We are looking forward to learning about Bugs! We have a lot to explore! We will integrate outdoor observations with fun activities in the classroom. We planted green beans indoors. We are planning to transplant them to our outdoor garden. Hopefully, our "green thumbs' will allow us to watch them continue to flourish in our yard.
Our children enjoy observing and exploring things in our science table. For our Farm unit, we were able to explore different types of animal feed using some of our five senses. We observed cornmeal, pellets, oats and hay. We are planning to transform this table into an exploration of different types of dinosaurs. "Dino Dig" is coming May 28th.
Transitional Preschool - Our green beans are growing very tall on our window sill and it is now time to plant them outside. We are looking forward to watching their continued growth and development in our garden.
We completed our observation of the lifecycle of a Ladybug. The children enjoyed observing them in the classroom and setting them free in the backyard. We read alot of ladybug books and completed a group art project of a very sparkely ladybug.
Our science area is becoming a study of pond life for the next few weeks. We will create lily pads and add pond creatures to explore. We will read, "In a Small, Small Pond" by Denise Fleming and investigate all the creatures and plant life that live in a pond.
We have also been learning alot about Dinosaurs. We learned some of their names. We searched for skelton bones in the sand table. We used stamps to make different types of footprints. We are now ready for "Dino Dig" coming to MCC on May 28th.
Preschool 1 - We are almost ready to plant our seedlings and let our earthworms do their job. We are going green in Preschool 1 by creating an outside compost bin and by reducing the amount of paper and plastic we use at lunch time. We will continue to brainstorm ways we can contribute to the environment in a positive way.
May is "Bug Appreciation" month. Our mission is learning about the important contributions they make to our environment. Our slogan is "Don't Squish Bugs"! We are "going buggy" with art and science projects. We will use many of the curriculum resources in our book corner and language arts areas. We will end our study with a special "Celebrate Bugs" day. We are looking forward to learning about Dinosaurs at the end of the month and a visit from "Dino Dig".
TK 1 - In our spring science curriculum, our class is studying the life cycle of an earthworm. We continue to observe them on our science table. Dinosaurs, fossils and volcanos will be our focus for a few weeks. We will integrate our study in all areas of our curriculum. We are excited about the visit from DinoDig on May 28th. We have been busy planning a special celebration on June 26th. Keep your eyes out for an invitation.
Summer Camp plans are under way. The children are excited about joining us for music, stories, theme days, picnics, adventures and bubbles . Please watch our classroom bulletin board as our ideas continue to multiply.
TK2 - We chose the life cycle of a Butterfly for our science project this month. They have arrived and we are observing their progress daily. We will join the rest of the school in learning about dinosaurs. We are excited about a visit from "DinoDig" on May 28th. Summer Camp is going to be so much fun. The children are excited about enjoying the sprinklers outside. They love digging tunnels and making bridges in the sand. Special theme days will include "Tye Dye Day", Water Theme Parks and Picnic Adventures. We are truly looking forward to it! |

The Swap Shop at MCC
The Swap Shop is open for business.. The shelves are in place and we have volunteers to help sort, size, and place the clothing on the shelves. You are welcome to come in and browse anytime. Please feel welcome to swap or "shop". When you finish cleaning closets and drawers, and would like to donate, you may leave donations at the front desk with Amy.
Blanket The Globe Project
The Blanket the Globe Project is a program that builds awarness and gives voice to the environmental concerns of children.
We have signed up to contribute to this project. It involves our children decorating squares of cloth with environmental themes that show how they feel connected to nature.
Jaime Erhlich, our state rep's daughter, is the founder of this project. and will be coming to MCC to help us get started.
Recycle Bin Please don't forget that we have a recycle bin next to our dumpster. You may dump any paper products you have in there. When the bin is full it is weighed and the charity of our choice receives a small donation.
